The Owners
The Mooloolaba Pet Centre, formerly Aquarium & Aviary Centre, was established in 1986 and is the oldest pet shop on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. It moved to it’s present location, along with the name change, in August 2009.
Owners Mike and Judy Owen, their daughter Rebecca, and their staff have developed an unrivaled reputation for the quality of their advice, the friendliness of their service, and the concern they have for the animals under their care. Between them they have over 75 years combined experience in the pet industry.
Mooloolaba Pet Centre has been active members of the pet industry’s peak body, the Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA) and Mike has represented the Queensland branch of PIAA on Queensland Government advisory committees for many years in discussions about bird and reptile related matters.
Mike has also been involved in many bird welfare issues, having written th e first code of practise for the keeping of birds in Queensland pet shops in the mid 1990’s, and has also been invited to talk at overseas conferences on captive bird welfare. He is also active in parrot conservation issues, being the Australian Representative for the World Parrot Trust for many years.
The Shop
We cater for all types of freshwater fish, with over 100 tanks of fish to choose from including many types of goldfish, tropical, American cichlids and African cichlids. We also have one of the largest range of plants available in Queensland.
Naturally a full range of fish keeping accessories such as filters, food, medications, lights and ornaments are always kept in stock as well as aquariums, stands and hoods. Particular attention is paid to keeping spare parts for the range of products sold in the shop.
Handraised pet birds are a speciality, and are beautifully displayed on our unique play table. Seed for all types of birds is available both as mixes and individual seed types. Various types of pellets and hand rearing mixes are also kept in stock.
There are a large variety of bird cages to choose from as well as cage and aviary accessories. We stock the biggest range of bird toys to be found in Queensland.
Reptile enthusiasts are catered for, with our large range of live reptiles as well as enclosures, food and accessories. We have various species of snakes, skinks, dragon lizards and turtles, and our staff have completed industry training in the care and sale of these reptiles.
Whilst we do not sell dogs, cats, mice or guinea pigs, we do keep a good selection of accessories and food in stock for these pets.
